Yes there is a problem with it, don't know if Apple knows. The apps like Diskmaker and Disk Creator use the createinstallmedia commands in Terminal, that just dress it up with a GUI.

One work around that has been posted before is to make a bootable USB with the old Sierra install app (if you have it), when the bootable USB has been created just drag the new Install macOS Sierra.app into the USB Volume on the Desktop, then just click on Replace. This will overwrite the old installer app with the new Sierra install app to the USB stick and you should now be able to boot from it and install Sierra.

It’s that time of the year again; Apple has officially released macOS Sierra on the Mac App Store, and everybody just wants to upgrade their Macs to the latest release. And with that, many Mac users are likely to face issues while downloading the update via Mac App Store [MAS]. Due to its large size and slow download speed, the download usually takes longer time to complete. And during that, it might get interrupted, and then restart all over again.

It can also mount Mac.dmg disk images to get at the files inside them. This application’s read-only nature isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
